Step 6 - Optimize your site settings

Now that your content is ready and your store is set up (if you followedStep 5), it's time to optimize the key settings that will boost your site's credibility and visibility.

These technical configurations may seem secondary, but they have a major impact on your natural search engine optimization, your professional image, and your legal compliance. A well-configured website inspires confidence and performs better in search engines.

In this step, you will configure all the essential settings so that your site is ready to welcome your visitors in the best possible conditions.

Site title and slogan

Your website's title and tagline appear in several strategic locations: in the browser tab, in Google search results, and sometimes in your website's header.

Access general settings

From your WordPress dashboard, go to Settings > General. This is where you configure your site's basic information.

Define the site title

Enter a clear and descriptive title that represents your business:

  • Your company name: If your brand is well known (e.g., "Le Jardin Restaurant")
  • Name + activity: If you are starting up (e.g., "Casablanca Pottery Workshop")
  • Maximum 60 characters: For optimal display in Google results

Examples:

  • Good: "Café des Arts – Artisanal tea room in Marrakech"
  • Less good: "Welcome to my website"

Add a catchy slogan

A slogan (also known as a "tagline") is a short phrase that describes what you offer:

  • Maximum 120 characters: Short and punchy
  • Describe your value: What makes you unique
  • Avoid generalities: Be specific

Examples:

  • "100% organic natural cosmetics, made in Morocco"
  • "Your digital accountant in Rabat"
  • Online yoga classes for beginners

Administration email address

In the same settings, verify thatthe administration email address is correct. This is the address where you will receive important notifications from the site (new comments, updates, etc.).

Favicon and visual identity

The favicon is the small icon that appears in the browser tab, bookmarks, and mobile shortcuts. It is an essential part of your brand identity.

Access identity settings

Go to Appearance > Customize > Site Identity. This section allows you to configure the visual elements of your identity.

Add your favicon

Upload your site icon (favicon):

  • Recommended format: PNG or ICO with transparent background
  • Dimensions: minimum 512×512 pixels (will be automatically resized)
  • Simple design: The icon will be very small, so avoid complex details.
  • Use your logo: Or a simplified version (initials, symbol)

Tip: If you don't have a favicon, use the first letter of your company name on a distinctive colored background.

Check the website logo

In the same section, ensure that your logo is correctly configured:

  • It must appear in the header of your website.
  • Ensure that it is clearly visible and legible.
  • Test on different screen sizes

Customize the visual theme (optional)

If you want to change the overall appearance of your site:

  • Go to Appearance > Themes
  • Browse available themes (free and premium)
  • Preview before activating
  • Ensure that the theme is compatible with your builder.

Basic SEO optimization

Search engine optimization (SEO) is crucial for being found on Google. Here are the essential settings to maximize your visibility.

Set up permalinks

Permalinks are the structure of your URLs. A clean structure improves your SEO and user experience.

Go to Settings > Permalinks and choose a readable structure:

  • Recommended: "Article name" (e.g., yourwebsite.com/services)
  • Avoid: "Simple" (e.g., yourwebsite.com/?p=123)
  • Alternative: "Custom structure" with /%postname%/

Example of an optimized URL:

  • Good: yourwebsite.com/consulting-services
  • Not as good: yourwebsite.com/?page_id=42

Optimize each page

For each important page on your site (Home, Services, Contact, etc.), optimize these elements:

SEO title

  • Maximum 60 characters: For full display in Google
  • Include keywords: What your customers are searching for
  • Make it attractive: Make people want to click on it
  • Unique per page: No duplicate titles

Meta description

  • Maximum 160 characters: Description that appears under the title in Google
  • Summarize the content: In one clear sentence
  • Include a call to action: "Discover," "Contact us," etc.
  • Relevant keywords: Without over-optimization

clean URL

  • Short and descriptive: /services rather than /our-professional-consulting-services
  • Keywords separated by hyphens: legal-consultation
  • Avoid special characters: No accents, spaces, or symbols
  • In lowercase: For consistency

Install an SEO plugin (recommended)

To facilitate SEO optimization, install a plugin such as Yoast SEO or Rank Math:

  • Go to Extensions > Add
  • Search for "Yoast SEO" or "Rank Math."
  • Install and activate the plugin
  • Follow the setup wizard

These plugins allow you to easily optimize each page with real-time recommendations. To learn more, check out our guide to WordPress SEO.

Create an XML sitemap

An XML sitemap helps Google crawl and index all your pages:

  • Most SEO plugins automatically generate a sitemap.
  • The typical URL is: yourwebsite.ma/sitemap.xml
  • Submit it to Google Search Console to speed up indexing.

Mandatory legal pages

Certain pages are required by law to protect your visitors and ensure compliance with regulations.

Create the Legal Notice page

The legal notices identify the website publisher and its responsibilities. This page must contain:

  • Publisher's identity: Name, company name, address of headquarters
  • Contact: Email, phone
  • Identification number: RC (Commercial Register) or ICE in Morocco
  • Host: Name and address (Nindohost, Morocco)
  • Publishing director: Content manager

Create the Privacy Policy

The privacy policy explains how you collect and use personal data (in accordance with the GDPR and Moroccan law on personal data):

  • Data collected: Name, email address, IP address, cookies, etc.
  • Purpose: Why you collect this data
  • Shelf life: How long you keep them
  • User rights: Access, rectification, deletion
  • Cookies: Which cookies you use and why
  • Contact: How to exercise your rights

Terms and Conditions of Sale (if e-commerce)

If you sell online, the terms and conditions are mandatory and must specify:

  • Price: including tax, shipping costs, payment terms
  • Order: Validation and confirmation process
  • Delivery: Times, areas, terms and conditions
  • Right of withdrawal: 7 days according to Moroccan law
  • Warranties: Legal and commercial
  • Disputes: Mediation and jurisdiction

Add links in the footer

Once these pages have been created, add them to your footer (configured inStep 3) so that they are accessible from all pages on your site.

Performance and analysis tools

To maximize your site's effectiveness, configure these performance and tracking elements.

Enable cache for speed

Caching significantly speeds up the loading of your site:

  • Install a cache plugin such as WP Super Cache or W3 Total Cache.
  • Go to Extensions > Add
  • Search for and install the cache plugin
  • Enable caching in the settings

Loading speed directly impacts your SEO and conversion rate.

Set up Google Analytics (optional)

To analyze your traffic and understand your visitors:

  • Create a free account on Google Analytics
  • Get your tracking code (measurement ID)
  • Install the MonsterInsights or Site Kit by Google plugin
  • Paste your tracking code into the settings

You can track: number of visitors, most viewed pages, visit duration, traffic sources, etc.

Set up Google Search Console

Google Search Console helps you monitor your presence in search results:

  • Create an account on Google Search Console
  • Add and verify your site
  • Submit your XML sitemap
  • Monitor indexing and errors

Optimize contact forms

Ensure that your contact forms are functioning correctly:

  • Test each form by sending a test message.
  • Check that emails are arriving in your inbox.
  • Set up anti-spam (reCAPTCHA recommended)
  • Add an automatic receipt confirmation

Enable SSL certificate (HTTPS)

The SSL certificate is normally already enabled with Nindohost, but check:

  • Your website must begin with https:// (not http://).
  • A padlock should appear in the address bar.
  • If this is not the case, contact Nindohost support.

Set up automatic backups

Protect your work with regular backups:

  • Nindohost performs automatic daily backups.
  • You can also install a plugin such as UpdraftPlus.
  • Set up weekly backups to external storage
  • Test the restoration to ensure that it works.
